Gunn takes aim while Bill gives back

We won’t stop talking about: Our beloved Tim Gunn. “Gather ‘round, people!” Silver-haired, dapper, honest and willing to laugh at himself, Gunn is 80% of the reason that “Project Runway” is the only reality show we truly love. This week, his own show premieres on Bravo, “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style,” a “What Not to Wear”-type affair with Gunn doling out advice (with the help of Veronica Webb) to poorly dressed females. “I want every woman to reach her style zenith,” Gunn says in the “about” section of the show’s website. So do we Tim, so do we. (Thursday)

You should at least know about: Bill Clinton’s new book. We once saw Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton at a movie theater in our hometown, and together we watched “House of Flying Daggers.” All we could think was, this epic film has nothing on the epic lives of the family a few rows in front of us. This week President Clinton comes out with a new book titled “Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World.” No matter how you feel about him, we think it’s worth checking out. (Tuesday)

You should think about: “Morning Becomes Eclectic.” The iconic radio show turns 30 this week and celebrates with a special broadcast of music programmed by former hosts Tom Schnabel and Chris Douridas and current host Nic Harcourt. We are not uniformly in love with the show, but tune in whenever we’re in the car after 9 a.m. It’s an L.A. institution, and there’s really nothing else like it. (Monday)

You could talk about: Smokin’ Clive Owen! We first fell in love with Owen when he played the smolderingly virile valet in “Gosford Park.” Woo-hee! And he hasn’t let us down since. This week he stars in the action flick “Shoot ‘Em Up.” As the film’s bouncy publicist said, “It’s like James Bond without any of the high-tech stuff… . But whatever. Clive Owen is hot!” (Friday)

You can’t help but smile when you talk about: Alan Alda. Publishers Weekly describes Alda as a “Mr. Rogers for grown-ups,” and that feels right on the money. This week the fatherly actor releases his second book, “Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself,” a rumination on how to live the good life, which includes sections from various graduation and keynote speeches he has made. So far the reviews have been positive. We expected nothing less. (Tuesday)
