If Colbert’s new book is as good as its title …

You should talk about: “I Am America (And So Can You!).” Stephen Colbert has written a book with the funniest title of all time. We suspect that what’s inside is funny too, but we can’t promise because we haven’t read it yet (or even the excerpt that ran in GQ). Maybe he’ll host the Oscars in 2009. Watch out, Jon Stewart: You are in danger of being eclipsed! (Tuesday)

You could talk about: “Sleuth.” It’s a tight, stylish, efficient-looking movie directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Jude Law and Michael Caine about a battle of wits between an old mystery writer and his wife’s lover. (Guess who plays which part and who’s been here before.) Everything about this movie looks spot-on. It opens in a limited release this week. (Friday)

We recommend you talk about: Band of Horses. There are some high-profile CD releases coming this week – Jennifer Lopez’s “Brave,” LeAnn Rimes’ “Family” – but we’d like to direct your attention to the Southern indie-rockers Band of Horses and their second release, “Cease to Begin.” The album’s quiet, twangy rock is perfect “hanging out on a gray weekend afternoon with only one light on in the apartment” music. We’ve been listening to it a ton, and we think you should too. (Tuesday)

We can’t imagine anyone talking about: The season premiere of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” We were shocked to learn this show is still on the air, and even more shocked to learn that it has been on the air since January 1990. It made sense back then, but wouldn’t the rampant e-mailing of crazy YouTube video render this show obsolete? Apparently not yet. (Tonight)

We always like to talk about: Kiiiiid Rock! Kid ‘s new album, “Rock n Roll Jesus,” comes out this week and we welcome it! We like Kid Rock partly because his name is cool, partly because he does not take his celebrity for granted and partly because he did that unexpected ballad with Sheryl Crow. We don’t even mind that he hit Tommy Lee at the 2007 VMAs. After all, Lee was once arrested for beating up Rock’s ex, Pamela Anderson. Kid Rock’s music is OK, but sometimes it’s more about persona than anything else. (Tuesday)
