Blows to the head killed a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer who was found in a shallow grave Wednesday in a northern Philippine mountain village, officials said after an autopsy.
Julia Campbell, 40, of Fairfax, Va., who had been hiking in the area, suffered "multiple blunt traumatic injuries of the head," and injuries to her arms that indicated she tried to block the blows, officials said.
Campbell's remains were turned over to the Peace Corps after the autopsy. Officials said U.S. experts observed the autopsy and agreed with the findings.
Police found a bloodstained pole near the home of a suspect, who has gone into hiding.
