Study launched of mysterious clouds

April 28, 2007|From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A NASA spacecraft was launched aboard a rocket Wednesday on the first mission to study mysterious clouds that float 50 miles above Earth.

The noctilucent clouds, which cluster around the polar regions and can only been seen at night, have appeared brighter and more often in recent years -- perhaps because of climate change.

The spacecraft will spend two years studying the clouds.
