Buzz Clubs

August 02, 2007

After killing it at Mood on Wednesday nights for years, the Alliance's Josh Richman, Shane Powers and Hartwell are singing a new tune at Opera on Thursdays. Last week, the new Hollywood "it" club, owned by South African native David Judaken (Mood/Garden of Eden), was inaugurated by Paris and Nicky Hilton, who danced till closing. Owen Wilson, Adrian Grenier and David Spade also busted a few moves. Outdoors on the new club's patio, Mary-Kate Olsen and Adam Brody were spotted. And on Saturday night, actor Matt Damon did a drive-by. . . . It was a reggae-style love-in at Afro Funké last Thursday. The dance club, held each week at Zanzibar in Santa Monica, hosted a party for a new remix record for "Bob Marley & the Wailers," and in the house were DJ Mark Rae, Wailers guitarist Junior Marvin and Barbados reggae star David Kirton. . . . In more funky news, Funky Sole, a long-running eclectic Saturday night soul club formerly at Star Shoes, has taken up residence at Jimmy's Lounge (the new name of the old El Centro nightclub on Santa Monica and El Centro in Hollywood).

Britney lands at Vegas' LAX

Bolthouse Productions is hosting a Hillary Rodham Clinton meet-and-greet at the Abbey nightclub in WeHo next Thursday. Fifty bucks gets you in and $1,000 gets you a handshake with the senator and former first lady. . . . Also next Thursday, scenesters get a preview of the latest swanky Santa Monica nightspot, V-Lounge, on Wilshire Boulevard near the popular Wilshire restaurant. DJ Caroline D'Amore is scheduled to provide the mood. . . . A little birdie tells us that Sam Nazarian's former partner, Reza Roohi, is brewing up a new club at the old J. Sloane's on Melrose. . . . DJ AM licensed out the name LAX to the Luxor in Las Vegas, which plans to celebrate the grand opening of the new club (named after AM's Hollywood nightclub LAX) on Aug. 31 with guest host Britney Spears. C'mon, wasn't Ashlee Simpson available?. . . We hear the Guns N' Roses party at the Keyclub on Saturday night brought everyone but Axl Rose.

The Alliance haunts Opera

Shag has an Addiction

For those who aren't going back to rehab, Addiction is what's happening at Shag in Hollywood on Saturdays. Hosted by promoters Steve Castro and TJ Hoban, Addiction features DJs Nacho, Alex G and Leo Azevedo spinning house music. . . . George Clooney, Daniel Craig and Jeremy Piven are among those who've checked out the Woods, the latest bar by Craig Trager (NoBar/Daddy's/the Well) at the former Lava Lounge in Hollywood. . . . No better way to show off your fall line than a slumber party with supermodels. Diesel is hosting an overnight fete at this year's Polaroid Beach House in Malibu on Friday, Aug. 10. A hangover-curing barbecue is planned for Saturday.
