Ending junk mail to the deceased

August 05, 2007

Here is another option to obliterate junk mail sent to the deceased ("Stopping junk mail for living and dead," Consumer Watch, July 22):

When my father passed away in 2004, whenever I received junk mail sent to him, I wrote "DECEASED -- STOP MAILINGS" in bold letters across the piece of paper in the mailing that showed my father's name and address, and mailed it back using the provided envelope. Within six to nine months all of the mail stopped. They had to open the envelopes because they thought there might have been a check inside!
