at New York 5, Detroit 2: Roger Clemens, working on 10 days rest after serving a five-game suspension for hitting the Blue Jays' Alex Rios in the back with a pitch on Aug. 7, pitched six innings in posting his 352rd career victory. He gave up 10 hits, his most since yielding 11 on Sept. 19, 2005, with Houston at Pittsburgh, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Baltimore 5, at Toronto 3: Steve Trachsel gave up eight hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings and won for the first time since June 8. Jim Hoey relieved Trachsel after a pair of two-out singles in the seventh and got pinch-hitter Vernon Wells to ground into an inning-ending fielder's choice. Trachsel had six no-decisions in between wins.

Cleveland 8, at Tampa Bay 1: Jake Westbrook gave up one run over seven innings, and Asdrubal Cabrera hit his first major league homer for the Indians. Westbrook gave up two hits, including an RBI double by Carlos Pena with two out in the seventh.

Texas 5, at Minnesota 0: Marlon Byrd homered and drove in four runs, sending Kameron Loe and the Rangers past the Twins. Loe came off the disabled list and threw five shutout innings, overcoming five walks by ending four of those innings with two runners on base.

Kansas City 7, at Oakland 3: Jason Smith hit a pair of two-run homers to help the Royals clinch the season series with the A's for the first time in nine years.

at Seattle 7, Chicago 5: The Mariners handed the White Sox their season-high seventh straight loss.

at Boston 10, Angels 5: Jered Weaver had been 18-0 with eight no decisions in 26 starts when the Angels scored at least three runs while he was in the game.
