Vote paves way for civilian rule

August 20, 2007|From Times Wire Reports

Voters in Thailand's first national referendum approved a new constitution, clearing the way for an election before December that would restore civilian rule after last year's military-led coup, unofficial results showed.

Nationwide, nearly 57% of voters approved the draft constitution, with about 41% against it, according to the state election commission's count.
