Sewage spill closes part of Newport Bay

August 21, 2007|From Times Staff Reports

A 100-foot stretch of Newport Bay north and south of Adams Street has been closed to swimming and diving because of a 50-gallon sewage spill, authorities said Monday.

The spill was caused by a grease blockage that backed up raw sewage from Newport Landing on Sunday, they said.

The closure will remain in effect until the results of follow-up water quality testing meet acceptable standards, a spokesman for the Orange County Health Care Agency said.
