$70,000 Can Buy You a Lot of Auld Lang Syne

December 09, 2007|Michael Shaw

That's the price tag of one of the more extravagant ways to pop the cork this New Year's. There are only 15 Veuve Clicquot "Vertical Limit" champagne cellars worldwide, and one is at Wally's in Westwood. Filled with a dozen vintage magnums, the oldest dating to 1955, the Porsche-designed coffer is a dazzling 7-foot-tall tower of brushed steel. "When you first see it, you almost have this feeling of seeing the monolith from '2001,'" says Christian Navarro, a partner at Wally's who has a coterie of collectors bidding to buy it. "Somehow I felt like a monkey with a bone in my hand." Wally's, (310) 475-0606.--michael shaw
