Judge blocks state voter ID law

December 19, 2007|From Times Wire Reports

A federal judge in Tallahassee blocked enforcement of a state law that prevents people from registering to vote if officials cannot match their Social Security or driver's license numbers to federal or state databases.

With six weeks to go before the state's presidential primary, U.S. District Judge Stephan P. Mickle issued a temporary injunction against the law, which is meant to prevent election fraud.

Secretary of State Kurt Browning said he would appeal.
