THE SCOUT / TRENDSPOTTING

The forest by the slice

December 27, 2007|David A. Keeps

Add a bit of rustic style to the table with free-edge slices of trees from Joel, a one-name-only Minnesota designer. Made from responsibly forested ash, cherry and maple, these handsome slabs are mineral-oil-finished, so they're safe for use as cutting boards or serving trays and can be cleaned with soap and water. The 12-inch-diameter pieces, which can double as trivets or chargers, are $36 each at Show in Los Feliz. Coaster-sized slices sold out over the holidays and are back in stock for $8 each. 1722 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 644-1960, www.showlifestyle.com.
