Ex-school official gets jail for theft

A former school administrator was sentenced in Riverhead to two to six years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the school district and the state retirement fund, prosecutors said.

Daniel Cifonelli, the former assistant superintendent for business in the William Floyd School District on Long Island, pleaded guilty to nine counts of grand larceny and money laundering.

Cifonelli, 72, will have his sentence run concurrently with a 2 1/2 -year federal prison term for tax evasion, authorities said.
