A military judge at Ft. Campbell approved a soldier's guilty plea to the rape and murder of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and the slaying of her family.
Under terms of a plea agreement, Sgt. Paul E. Cortez, 24, will avoid the death penalty and cooperate with prosecutors. He will be sentenced to life in prison, plus reduction in rank and a dishonorable discharge, officials said.
