14 rescued 9 days after ferry disaster

Fourteen people who spent nine days on a life raft after an Indonesian ferry sank have been rescued by a cargo ship, survivors and officials said.

A 15th person died soon after the people were plucked from the water nearly 370 miles from where the ferry, carrying more than 600 people, sank in a storm.

About 245 people have been found alive since the ferry sank in 12-foot waves. Only 13 bodies have been recovered.
