Out of place, out of touch

January 10, 2007

Re "Dreier shifts gears in a hurry," Jan. 6

Good for Rep. David Dreier (R-San Dimas) for holding the House Democrats accountable for not keeping their campaign promises. It's not about what the Republicans did; it's about what the Democrats promised they were going to do. Why are Democrats so afraid of open debate?

The American people want Republicans and Democrats to work together for the good of the country. The so-called first 100 hours have been shameful. No sunshine, no debate, no openness, no Democrat Congress come 2008.

At a time when he should be rolling up his sleeves, Dreier is more concerned with his own image than with the people he is supposed to represent. It's clear from his antics that he's struggling for relevance in a Congress full of fresh faces and new ideas. He's out of place and out of touch, both in Washington and at home.

As a nation, we have some very serious business ahead, such as the conduct of the war in Iraq, with soldiers dying daily. Hopefully, Dreier will deem these issues important enough that he will forget about playing politics all the time. Legislators who continually overwhelm others with their arrogance need to go, regardless of their party affiliation.
