Uh-oh -- the Razzie nods are loose

January 22, 2007|Lee Margulies

'Tis the accolade season in Movieland, but where is the recognition for all the work that didn't make critics' top 10 lists for 2006 -- or even their top 50 lists?

Enter the 27th annual Razzie Awards. Today, nominees for the worst films and performances of the year are announced, led by "Basic Instinct 2" and "Little Man," with seven nods among the 11 categories. "BloodRayne" was a runner-up with six citations. All three were nominated for worst picture, along with "Lady in the Water" and "The Wicker Man."

Three Oscar winners are in the running for Razzies: Nicolas Cage as worst actor for "The Wicker Man," Ben Kingsley as worst supporting actor for "BloodRayne" and Ron Howard as worst director for "The Da Vinci Code."

The tongue-in-cheek Razzies are handed out annually by the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation, with nominations and winners chosen by hundreds of film professionals, journalists and fans. Winners will be announced Feb. 24 at the Ivar Theatre in Hollywood.
