The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq and Kuwait or who died at a U.S. hospital of their injuries:
Alexandre A. Alexeev, 23, of Wilmington; specialist, Army. Alexeev was among five soldiers killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Abu Sayda, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

William L. Bailey III, 29, of Bellevue, Neb.; private, Army National Guard. Bailey was killed May 25 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 755th Chemical Reconnaissance/Decontamination Company in O'Neill, Neb.

Zachary D. Baker, 24, of Vilonia, Ark.; corporal, Army. Baker was among five soldiers killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Abu Sayda, Iraq, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Matthew E. Baylis, 20, of Oakdale, N.Y.; private first class, Army. Baylis died Thursday of injuries suffered a day earlier when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Matthew A. Bean, 22, of Pembroke, Mass.; private first class, Army. Bean died Thursday after being removed from life support at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., where he was being treated for injuries suffered May 19 when he was shot in the head by a sniper in Latifiya, Iraq, south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Clinton C. Blodgett, 19, of Pekin, Ind.; specialist, Army. Blodgett was killed May 26 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Mark R.C. Caguioa, 21, of Stockton; specialist, Army. Caguioa died May 24 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., of wounds suffered May 4 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
