Quillota tries to run streak to four in a row
Quillota, one of the hottest thoroughbreds on the grounds, will seek his fourth consecutive win Sunday night in the fourth race at Los Alamitos.
A 6-year-old Half Term gelding owned by Hugo Catalan and trained by Cirilo Sierra, Quillota, who won two of his first 15 starts, began his streak on April 27, won for the same $2,000 claiming price on May 12, then stepped up to the $3,200 plateau and scored again on May 26.
The California bred is jumping in class again Sunday night as he'll take on seven other foes in the $5,000 claimer at 4 1/2 furlongs.
Ridden by Jose Dominguez in his previous three victories, Quillota will have a new rider in Victor Navarro.
Besides Quillota, the field, which is the final leg of the early pick four and the first race in the pick six, includes Ifiruledtheworld, Mexico Excess, Sterling Image, Red Beach, Fogged In, Lotta Loot and Lord Macho.
The race is one of four at the 4 1/2 -furlong distance. The first features older fillies and mares racing for a $2,500 claiming price, the second is a $2,500 maiden claimer and the last for older fillies and mares running for a $5,000 claiming tag.
