Halloween hate-crime case moves to Inglewood

A second trial in the Halloween beating of three white women by a group of black youths was transferred Thursday out of Long Beach.

Two 15-year-olds exercised their right to have their case heard by a judge rather than a court commissioner, the only jurist available in Long Beach for the juvenile proceeding. The next hearing is scheduled for April 23 in Inglewood.

Nine other black youths -- eight girls and an 18-year-old male -- were convicted of felony assault charges, and eight were convicted of a hate-crime enhancement in January.
