Hot Property - Attached? Certainly to his trailers

November 04, 2007

Matthew McConaughey is on the move in Malibu -- from a 28-foot, $65,000 Airstream in an RV park to a $10-million home on slightly more than an acre.

The 37-year-old actor liked his Airstream so much that he ordered two more last spring. Still, not even three Airstreams were enough.

FOR THE RECORD

Real Estate: The Hot Property column in the Nov. 4 Real Estate section reported that actor Matthew McConaughey personally knocked on the door of a Malibu home that wasn't on the market and struck a deal. However, the story should not have implied that he chose the home at random. He was represented by Lily Harfouche of Coldwell Banker-Malibu West and was shown the house by the seller's agent, Michael Cunningham of Pritchett-Rapf & Associates, Malibu Road, who had a pocket listing on it.

McConaughey started looking at homes to buy and decided on one that wasn't even on the market. After he personally knocked on the door, however, a deal was struck.

At 3,500 square feet, the house is not as large as many in Malibu. And it's old -- built in 1949. But its acre-plus

lot has room to park a fleet of Airstreams. The home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

The actor, one of Hollywood's hottest bachelors, may be getting ready to settle down. When not cruising shirtless through Malibu's streets, he often can be found with 24-year-old Brazilian model Camila Alves, who has been seen sporting a new ring.

McConaughey appeared in "The Wedding Planner" (2001) and "Sahara" (2005). Last year, he played real-life football coach Jack Lengyel in "We Are Marshall." He recently replaced Owen Wilson in the upcoming film "Tropic Thunder."

Dragons, gargoyles guard the castle

There's little question that David Draiman, lead singer of the band Disturbed, likes life in the fast lane.

Earlier this year, the 34-year-old frontman took a helicopter to a New Zealand winery, had a private cruise in an $8-million yacht and went scuba diving in Australia.

More recently, he has been recording in Chicago and has put his Northridge castle, with its turrets, gargoyles, dragons and griffins, on the market at close to $2.9 million. Draiman purchased the residence for $2.5 million in 2005.The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home, a former nondescript tract house that was transformed in 1992 by former owners with a fascination for medieval themes, has barrel-vaulted halls, a great room with 24-foot-high ceiling, theater chandeliers and secret doors behind bookcases.

There is a 6,800-square-foot main house, plus a guesthouse with a full kitchen, a tennis court, a pool with a lap lane and an exercise room with an office.

It seems that the only missing feature is a moat, but there is a koi pond, a wooden bridge, a waterfall and a large sculpture of a dragon in the frontyard.

Shelly Slovin, Prudential California Realty, Calabasas, has the listing.
