FAIRY-TALE ALERT
Another designer has hit Target, and this time it’s not a bull’s-eye.
Erin Fetherston, the Paris expat with platinum bangs, is all about frothy, super-short “Alice in Wonderland” confections. And though the look is interesting on her tall, lithe body, for the average Target shopper it’s better left down the rabbit hole.
The collection is composed mostly of grown-up versions of little-girl dresses. A five-tier dress in pink and purple chiffon resembles layers of frosting on a giant cupcake. And a ruffle-front shirt-dress in an unflattering metallic beige looks more like a night shirt than a party dress.
The tailored pieces are worth considering. A black velvet blazer with tuxedo lapels and puckered sleeves ($44.99) fits well and has a nice, slick lining. It’s versatile enough to wear through winter – either with the matching cuffed velvet trousers for those not afraid of being mistaken for the Mad Hatter, or thrown over a party dress to keep warm at night. A long-sleeve black T-shirt has a nice shape, and a contrasting velvet bow at the neck ($19.99).
A charmeuse jumper ($29.99) in a rich ruby might be festive if it didn’t look so costumey, especially paired with an oversized heart-shaped handbag ($29.99), as it is featured.
Perhaps Fetherston should have spent more time thinking about what other people wear. Instead, she put herself in the line, literally, with a look-alike blond model posing for the look book, and a repeating “Erin” portrait on a T-shirt
Then again, every designer loves a muse.
