THE SCOUT / PETS

Dog (or cat) in a dome

November 22, 2007|Craig Nakano

One trend at the world's top design shows this year has been a preponderance of gem-like faceted forms, so it's no surprise that we now have this: LuLu's Hideaway, an acrylic dome for that little dog or cat with a taste for the modern. The Hideaway ($550) is one of several amusing riffs on pet bedding available through the Modern Dog in Venice, where owners Lance Castro and Guy Miracle are bracing for a brisk holiday season. "As soon as people put their pumpkins away, shoppers were out," Castro says, adding that customers increasingly are looking for pet products that go beyond the cute. "They are looking for things that will blend well with the design aesthetic of their homes," he says. That explains the fabric swatches in the store, primed for custom orders on pet beds that will fit contemporary interiors. 1611 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Los Angeles; (310) 450-2275; www.come-sit-stay.com.
