A pilot flying by himself from Long Beach to Henderson, Nev., was killed early Friday when his small plane crashed into the median of Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass, about half a mile south of Oak Hill Road.
The San Bernardino County coroner's office identified the victim as Air Force Lt. Col. Raymond Roessler, 43, of Clinton, Utah.
Air traffic controllers lost radar and radio contact with the single-engine Piper PA-28 at 12:42 a.m., Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said.
