Think local

September 01, 2007

I am glad that East West Bank, which started in Los Angeles' Chinatown many years ago, is promoting contemporary art from China ["MOCA's Chinese Future," by Suzanne Muchnic, Aug. 29]. However, that leaves me with one question: What about local Chinese American artists who need community support for their works?

Are there no contemporary Chinese American artists whose works are edgy and bold and worthy of Dominic Ng's sponsorship? The Chinese American Museum has had numerous shows highlighting a number of those artists. Giving back to the community is more than just purchasing artworks overseas for the community to see.
