Tour covers West Adams myriad styles

DATEBOOK

THE Western Heights Historic Preservation Overlay Zone, created in 2001 in a section of L.A.'s West Adams neighborhood, contains 150 structures dating from the late 19th century to the 1930s. Visitors can stroll through the district Sunday during a home tour sponsored by the Western Heights Neighborhood Assn. The self-guided tour will highlight eight homes representing many architectural styles: Craftsman, Tudor Revival, Queen Anne, Spanish Colonial Revival, Monterey Revival and American Four-Square. Many were designed by some of the city's most prominent architects, including John C. Austin, Myron Hunt, Sumner Hunt, Frank M. Tyler, Elmer Grey, Arthur R. Kelly and Paul Williams. The tour will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance (e-mail westernheightstour@mac.com) or $35 on the day of the event (sold at 2173 W. 20th St.).
