Fast start powers California, 42-12

Lavelle Hawkins returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and Justin Forsett ran for 152 yards and three scores in No. 8 California's 42-12 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

Craig Stevens and Jahvid Best caught touchdown passes from Nate Longshore, who passed for 230 shaky yards as Cal (3-0) comfortably finished its nonconference schedule with its ninth straight win at Memorial Stadium.

Forsett had another outstanding game behind Cal's offensive line, finishing with a one-yard stroll over the goal line with 9:46 left in the eighth 100-yard performance of his career.

Zac Champion passed for 149 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for Louisiana Tech (1-2).

Oregon State 61, Idaho State 10 -- Sean Canfield threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns, Sammie Stroughter had 160 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and the Beavers (2-1) cruised over the Bengals (1-1) at Corvallis, Ore. Oregon State had 607 total yards.

Stanford 37, San Jose State 0 -- Toby Gerhart ran for 140 yards and a touchdown to lead the Cardinal (1-1) over the Spartans (0-3) for its first win in seven tries in its newly renovated stadium.

Arizona State 34, San Diego State 13 -- Rudy Carpenter threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns and Keegan Herring had two touchdown run to lead the Sun Devils (3-0) over the Aztecs (0-2) at Tempe, Ariz.

Washington State 45, Idaho 28 -- Alex Brink threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns as the Cougars (2-1) defeated the Vandals (1-2) at Pullman, Wash.

New Mexico 29, Arizona 27 -- Donovan Porterie threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Lobos (2-1) over the Wildcats (1-2) at Tucson.
