The music world's influence on fashion has always been significant: Think of Jim Morrison's leather pants, Elvis Costello's glasses and Pat Benatar's leg warmers.

But only a handful of artists have cultivated a signature style that perforates worlds beyond runways and fashion magazines. While most iconic looks can be credited to calculated, crafty costuming -- à la Madonna, Gwen Stefani and Prince -- some have, no doubt, been forged unwittingly by the fashion-apathetic, who donned the same dress-head scarf-lederhosen every time they hit the stage.

Whether the artists below intended to spark a fashion trend, or they simply couldn't be bothered with the laundry, each popularized at least one look that continues to influence the fashion tides.
