ECHO PARK boasts some of the most eye-popping street fashion in Los Angeles, and the twice-monthly Check Yo' Ponytail party at the Echoplex is one of its most engaging runways. The club night was founded by DJ Franki Chan last year and recently moved to this subterranean space beneath the smaller nightclub the Echo. The party features bands and live DJs -- many from the "new rave" music movement, which fuses dance beats with punk and indie rock.

Ponytail's fashion tenants have evolved since its inception, moving from an initial shaggy-haired, Brit rock-esque look to this past summer's obsession with all things neon. The current mode is more anything-goes. Girls pair skinny jeans and miniskirts with neon tops and vintage '80s heels or classic Vans, while guys get creative with secondhand suits and porkpie hats, Members Only jackets and variations of classic B-Boy style. The best place to clock outfits is on the club's lighted outdoor patio, but the serious fun takes place on its pitch-black dance floor.
