Highway argument over before it starts

September 25, 2007

Re "The conspiratorial highway," Opinion, Sept. 20

I don't know whether Shikha Dalmia and Leonard Gilroy represent the capitalist right or the socialist left, but anyone can plainly see that they employ the time-honored leftist ploy of pointing fingers and shrieking "xenophobe" or "racist" to quell any sane argument regarding the highway project. Simply beat down the opposition by affixing a label -- truly the last refuge of scoundrels.

I find it highly suspicious that not one word about the devastating loss of American trucking jobs is mentioned, or the effect this project might have on middle-class workers and their families here in the U.S. Is this because they already have the answer?
