Tasty! A private Sergio Rossi shopping spree for Salma Hayek and friends
It was an invitation that was impossible to pass up: Salma Hayek on her first night away from the new baby, hosting a dinner at Bastide, one of the hottest restaurants in town, for her pal Edmundo Castillo, the adorable Sergio Rossi shoe designer and creative director, in from New York to open the brand’s new boutique on Melrose Place.
But by the time 10 p.m. rolled around and the third of five courses was just being served, well, not even the baby photos Salma was showing around the tables could quiet the restless guests, which included Rachel Zoe, Vanessa Williams, Mia Maestro, Ana Ortiz, Giannina Facio and Debi Mazur.
Eva Chow was the biggest troublemaker, suggesting to Didier Bonnin, Sergio Rossi’s chief executive, that he open the boutique across the street for a little late-night shopping. (Honestly, what do you expect after two hours of sipping Champagne?) Luckily, Bonnin was a good sport, and after a few frantic phone calls, he was able to find the keys.
By 11 p.m., the ladies were shopping, and for the first time, Castillo and Bonnin were figuring out how to fetch and sell shoes. Chow tried on a pair of over-the-knee brown boots, while Williams slipped into cherry-print peep-toe platforms. Then Castillo grabbed a Sharpie and started autographing soles.
With its impromptu after-hours shopping trip, the evening was such a blast that if you didn’t know better you’d think they had planned it that way.
