‘The Office’ and ‘30 Rock’ roll out new episodes; ‘Young @ Heart’ rocks it on-screen
You will talk about: The return of good TV. Our TiVo has been depressingly bare these last few months – nothing but “Simpsons” reruns and “America’s Best Dance Crew” to come home to at night. Thankfully, NBC puts an end to that: New episodes of “30 Rock” and “The Office” premiere this week. It’s about time. (Thursday)
You could talk about: The return of OK TV. Our personal jury is still out on whether we like ABC’s “Samantha Who?” We definitely like Christina Applegate, but her character isn’t really nice, is she? (Nope. Not really.) Still, it’s nice that at least one new show did OK last year, and we’re glad to see it back. (Monday)
You should talk about: “Young @ Heart.” This film about a group of senior citizens who are part of a rock ‘n’ roll choir comes highly recommended from our mom, who got to an early screening. Documentaries aren’t usually our thing, but we like old people and music, and our mom, so we’re going to check it out. (Wednesday)
You could talk about: The Breeders. While we’ve never enjoyed the name of this band (founded in 1988), we’ve enjoyed pretty much every music project Kim Deal was ever involved with, and we’re glad she’s still making music. In this case, it’s with her sister Kelley, but it doesn’t matter to us whether she’s paired with Tanya Donelly or Frank Black. Nobody sounds like her, and she’s awesome. Their newest album, “Mountain Battles,” comes out this week. (Tuesday)
We can’t think of a single reason to talk about: “Rock of Love” on DVD. Even if you liked the first season of this VH1 show about Bret Michaels’ absurd search for love, we can’t imagine you’d want to watch it again. And if you missed it the first go-round, well, we can’t imagine you’d want to watch it at all. (Tuesday)
