‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ at Carpenter Performing Arts Center
BECOMING REAL
In the tradition of classic children’s heroes, the titular star of ”The Velveteen Rabbit” yearns to become something more than what he is. ” ‘Pinocchio,’ ‘Cinderella,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – these are all stories that are similar to ‘Velveteen,’ ” says Landis Smith, founder and co-artistic director of Enchantment Theatre Company. “They’re about growing up and becoming an active entity in the world.” This lively stage adaption of Margery Williams’ touching family fable makes its Southland premiere at Carpenter Performing Arts Center, using a mélange of skillful puppetry, energetic dance and Grammy-nominated music. 2 and 4:30 p.m. Sun., 6200 Atherton St., Long Beach. $20.
