Sex(ed) Diaries’ at USC

LET’S TALK ABOUT, UM, YOU KNOW

As if puberty weren’t awkward enough, adolescents have endured the uncomfortable instruction of sexual education films since the ’40s. Take 1969’s “Where the Girls Are,” which advises, “You can’t promise a girl like Julie you’ll be true to her and show up with a case of syphilis.” On Friday at USC, the program Sex(ed) Diaries will take a look at how these sometimes helpful, but mostly hilarious, films such as “Where the Girls Are” and “Easy to Get,” pictured, reflect several decades of mores. “Most peoples’ learning experiences were not helpful, or they were terrifying,” says Brenda Goodman, professor of cinematic arts at USC, who organized the event. “From the wide range of responses we received on the issue of how we learn about sex, the question is, should we be learning more?” 7:30 p.m. Fri., Norris Theatre, USC.
