Piotr Anderszewski: Beethoven on tap
BEETHOVEN ON TAP
Piotr Anderszewski, the bike-riding Polish-Hungarian powerhouse pianist who speaks four languages and plays concerts around the world each season, is still known almost two decades later as the contestant who self-eliminated from the 1990 Leeds piano competition in the middle of a work, apparently dissatisfied with his performance. Having not repeated that move since, Anderszewski (anhn-der-SHEV-skee), once described as a “Polish punker,” will join the Swedish Chamber Orchestra (making its West Coast debut) for all of Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto. Conducted by Thomas Dausgaard, the orchestra also performs Beethoven’s “Coriolan” Overture and Schumann’s Second Symphony. 8 p.m. Saturday, Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. $25-$85 and $250.
