Steve Martin’s ‘Picasso at the Lapin Agile’ at Rubicon Theatre
FROM THE MIND OF STEVE MARTIN
What if Pablo Picasso had met Albert Einstein at the bar where the artist unwittingly gave up a $125-million painting to settle his tab? Would the physicist have rolled his eyes at Picasso and said, “Way to go, Einstein”? Actor-comedian Paul Provenza (pictured with Amie Farrell) plays the artist in Steve Martin’s “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” a “wonderful little confection sitting on top of some powerful ideas about genius and art,” according to Provenza. Martin “is one of those artists who can make stupidity seem brilliant.” Opens 7 p.m. Sat., runs 2 and 7 p.m. Wed., 8 p.m. Thu.-Fri., 2 and 8 p.m. Sat., 2 p.m. Sun.; ends April 27. $29-$52 ($90, opening-night gala). Rubicon Theatre, 1006 E. Main St., Ventura. (805) 667-2900; www.rubicon
