Visiting Filipino boy injured in Pasadena crash
The 8-year-old and his family, visiting from their home in the Philippines, had been in the U.S. for only a few hours when they were struck in an Old Pasadena crosswalk.
An 8-year-old boy remained hospitalized this morning in critical condition after he and his parents were struck by a vehicle in an Old Pasadena crosswalk Thursday night, authorities said.
The boy and his family, visiting relatives from their home in the Philippines, had been in the U.S. for only a few hours when the accident took place shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Pasadena Police Sgt. Ernie Devis said.
The boy suffered internal injuries in the collision, authorities said. His 36-year-old father suffered a fractured right leg and was taken with the boy to Huntington Memorial Hospital; the father was in fair condition this morning, said hospital spokeswoman Connie Matthews. The boy's mother was taken to the hospital and evaluated but was not admitted, Matthews said, because she was not seriously injured.
The family was struck by a driver who apparently lost control while attempting to turn onto Colorado Boulevard from Fair Oaks Boulevard. Police said the driver turned in front of another vehicle, setting off the collision with pedestrians.
Police have not released the names of the crash victims or the drivers involved.
Devis said that police were still investigating what led up to the accident and that the driver had not been charged as of this morning.
