Healthcare at risk

August 01, 2008

Re "Life on the edge," Opinion, July 29

How coincidental that an earthquake, originally recorded as magnitude 5.8, would strike Southern California on the same day that The Times runs Jimmy H. Hara's Op-Ed article.

That the Los Angeles healthcare system is critically stressed under business-as-usual circumstances suggests that it is at great risk for inadequacy should it be subject to a natural disaster or an act of terrorism.

Proactive measures taken now to ensure high-quality care to the citizens of greater Los Angeles, including the homeless, will prevent any unnecessary diminution in standards of healthcare delivery during an emergency situation.
