New York 3, at Texas 0: Mike Mussina pitched seven sharp innings for his 15th win as the Yankees beat the Rangers to gain a split of the four-game series. Mussina (15-7) shut down the highest-scoring offense in the majors, matching Cleveland's Cliff Lee for most wins in the American League. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth for his career-best 28th consecutive save. Alex Rodriguez, booed again in his latest return to Texas, was hitless for the fourth consecutive night and finished the series 0 for 14.

Detroit 8, at Chicago 3: Miguel Cabrera and Curtis Granderson homered to help the Tigers end their six-game losing streak. Fernando Rodney got the final four outs to get his second save in six chances and only the 23rd in 43 opportunities for Detroit's struggling bullpen.

at Toronto 6, Oakland 4: A.J. Burnett won his fourth consecutive start as the Blue Jays extended the Athletics' losing streak to 10 games. Oakland rookie reliever Brad Ziegler worked a scoreless eighth inning, extending his streak of shutout innings to 35 -- the longest such run to begin a career in modern major league history (since 1900).

at Seattle 2, Tampa Bay 1: The Mariners won for only the fourth time in 57 games when trailing after seven innings.
