Drivers scramble for flying cash

August 11, 2008|Hector Becerra

Motorists stopped amid 65-mph traffic and hopped out of their vehicles Sunday to grab fluttering bills after a motorcyclist dropped a bag of cash on the 10 Freeway, authorities said.

The scramble caused the California Highway Patrol to close an eastbound stretch of the freeway at Garfield Avenue, Officer Anthony Martin said. When officers arrived just before 11 a.m., the rider of a Harley-Davidson told them he had dropped a canvas bag of cash, Martin said. Officers helped the biker gather some of the money and reopened the freeway after about 20 minutes.
