Lynwood man shot and killed by SWAT team

The man had allegedly shot and wounded his wife and was holding his daughter hostage, authorities say.

A man who allegedly shot the mother of his 2-year-old daughter, then held the daughter hostage for more than two hours inside his Lynwood home, was shot and killed by a Sheriff's Department SWAT team, authorities said today.

The toddler was not harmed in the standoff that began about 9 p.m. Sunday when deputies responding to a call found the girl's mother wounded by gunfire outside the home on the 3100 block of Los Flores Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Byron Ward.

The man was shot by SWAT officers at about 11:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, Ward said.

The wounded woman was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition and was expected to survive, Ward said.
