Former Bell High School teacher gets 6 months in jail for sex with student
Alex Diaz, 37, is also placed on five years' probation for his relationship with the 17-year-old girl.
A former Bell High School teacher was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail and five years' probation for having a sexual relationship with a female student that began in 2006, authorities said.
Alex Diaz, 37, pleaded guilty in Compton Superior Court to three counts of oral copulation of a person under age 18, three counts of unlawful sex with a minor and no contest to two counts of sodomy.
Authorities said Diaz was the girl's health teacher when she was 14 and that the sexual relationship began about two years later.
Authorities found out about the relationship in May after Diaz and the girl were discovered by sheriff's deputies in the back seat of a car in a parking lot in Rancho Dominguez. Diaz was arrested because the girl was 17 at the time of the alleged crime.
Diaz is scheduled to surrender to authorities Sept. 26, when he will begin his jail sentence. Other conditions of his sentence are that he not be around anyone under 18, except his newborn son, and that he attend a yearlong sexual battery program and undergo psychotherapy.
