Administrative leave ends for Huntington Beach official

Stanley Smalewitz, the city's economic development director, returns to his post after a personnel review that will remain confidential, officials say.

Huntington Beach Economic Development Director Stanley Smalewitz returned to his post today after being placed on administrative leave earlier this month, city officials said.

Smalewitz was placed on leave Aug. 7 by interim City Administrator Paul Emery while undergoing a confidential personnel review by the city's Human Resources Department, said city spokeswoman Laurie Payne.

Details of the review will not be released to the public, Payne said.

Smalewitz took over the city's economic development office in October 2005. Before that, he served as director of community development in the city of Commerce. Smalewitz also worked for the cities of Alhambra, Inglewood, Los Angeles and Riverside, in addition to a redevelopment consulting company.
