Dafra West African Dance and Drum Ensemble at the Ford Amphitheatre

DRUMMING AFRICA

"We call it 'Rogim Mik,' meaning 'heritage'," says Dafra West African Dance and Drum Ensemble director Olivier Tarpaga of the group's family-friendly performance Saturday at the Ford Amphitheatre. "There will be a little education about the culture of Africa and a lot of really good music from West Africa." The percussion-heavy program includes the sounds of djembes, dun duns and the balafon, a xylophone-like instrument popular in Tarpaga's native country, Burkina Faso. One of that country's more prominent drummers, Amadou Kienou, will lead the charge. 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. E., Hollywood. 10 a.m. Sat. $5, adults; kids, free. (323) 461-3673, www.fordtheatres.org.
