Update -- Sparks Coach Michael Cooper made it clear in the opening minutes of Thursday's game against the Sacramento Monarchs that no slack will be given during the stretch run. Candace Parker, who leads the team in scoring, rebounding and assists, failed to block out on a rebound 3 1/2 minutes into the game and the rookie was promptly removed. "Right now, we can't let anything fly," Cooper said. "It's a harsh way to do it, but we've been talking about it all year long, so I'm tired of talking, it's time for action." Parker did make amends in the second quarter, with eight points and four rebounds to help the Sparks surge ahead for good in their 78-63 victory at Staples Center.
