Woman dies in Ladera Heights house fire

Her body is found after firefighters responding to an unrelated call in the area discovered that her house was on fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

A woman was killed early this morning in a house fire in Ladera Heights.

Her body was found just after midnight in a bedroom of the two-story single-family home in the 5400 block of South La Cienega Boulevard, said Inspector Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters discovered the house on fire when they smelled smoke after responding to an unrelated call in the neighborhood, Haralson said. The fire was extinguished in about 40 minutes.

The woman, who was not identified but was believed to be in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
