Claudia wants to run away because she keeps getting mad at her parents. She picks her younger brother Jamie to go with her because he is rich -- that is, he has enough money for food and other things. She tells him that they are going to take the bus to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. They pack their things in cases used for musical instruments. They stay there until the museum closes. They find a place to sleep and hide their things the minute the museum closes. They change into their pajamas and go to sleep. The footsteps of the guards sound like a lullaby with a steady beat. The next day they wake up early to sneak out of the building.

The kids discover a mysterious statue in the museum. They want to figure out the mystery and discover clues. Wait, if I tell you the whole story, it won't be a surprise. So if you want to find out if they solve the mystery, you will have to check out the book. You must read it!

"The Absent Author"

The main characters are kids who solve mysteries on their own. Dink is funny, suspicious and hyper. Josh is always weird when he does things. Then there is Ruth Rose, who always wears the same color.

The story begins when Dink invites his favorite author to come to his city. The author surprises Dink by saying, "Yes." On the day the author is supposed to arrive, he doesn't show up. Everyone thinks he has missed his plane -- except the suspicious kids. The kids investigate his absence.

Every night there are a bunch of shadowy figures and a mysterious lady named Miss Smith. She seems to live alone in the Big Towers nearby. Does Benny find the owner of the locket?
