Teen to be tried in mother's death

CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / SAN DIEGO

December 18, 2008|Associated Press

A 15-year-old girl accused of killing her mother with a hammer has been ordered to stand trial in San Diego.

A judge found on Wednesday that prosecutors presented enough evidence to try Heather D'Aoust as an adult on murder and assault charges.

During a two-day pretrial hearing in Superior Court, an FBI agent testified that the girl's cellphone contained a text message detailing her plans to kill her adoptive parents, Rebecca and James D'Aoust.

Another investigator who searched the family's computer files testified that someone visited a website the night before the May 25 attack showing a list of "top 10 murder weapons."

D'Aoust is also accused of striking her adoptive father with the hammer as he tried to wrestle her to the ground.
