2008 Heat Festival: Moby
MOBY PACKS HEAT IN RIVERSIDE
We thought we were sick of Moby – until we heard his new disc, that is. “Last Night,” his sixth proper full-length (due in April on Mute Records), features actual rappers, electro-bangers like “257.Zero” and old-school disco throwbacks such as “I Love to Move in Here.” “The disco strings are played by me in my Lower East Side studio on an old Yamaha synth from the ’70s,” he says via e-mail of the latter track, one of the album’s standouts. The platinum-selling artist will play a special DJ set previewing material from “Last Night” (and other music) at the 2008 Heat Festival at UC Riverside, where more than 13,000 are expected. 311 and Mos Def will also perform. 7 p.m. Sat., UC Riverside Campus. $42.50, $25 (students, faculty, alumni via UCR Fine Arts).
