Robbery suspect is hit by victim’s pickup

A suspected robber discovered Thursday that karma can arrive on the front bumper of a Chevy pickup.

According to police, one of two men suspected of robbing a motorist in Anaheim was accidentally run over by the victim as the suspect tried to elude police.

“It was bad timing on the suspect’s part,” said Anaheim Police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

He said the 27-year-old motorist had pulled over near Orange Avenue and Beach Boulevard to study a map when he was approached by two men who threatened him and demanded his wallet.

The men walked away and got into a taxi. The driver followed them into Buena Park while contacting police.

The suspects got out of the cab on Stanton Avenue just as officers arrived. Martinez said the pair ignored an order to stop; instead, they fled. One suspect darted into the street and ran into the victim’s pickup.

“The guy falls to the ground and a gun falls out of his waistband,” Martinez said.

The suspect was treated for minor injuries and taken to a hospital, Martinez said.

Both men were expected to be charged with robbery, Martinez said. Their identities were not immediately available.

The pickup driver wasn’t cited. “The suspect ran right into his path,” Martinez said. “He couldn’t stop.”
